Pressure washing cleans your block paving — but it also removes the jointing sand. Re-sanding puts it back, stabilises the blocks and helps stop weeds coming straight back.
Available as part of a clean-and-re-sand package or as a standalone service once your paving is dry.
Re-sanding works best after a thorough clean. See our block paving cleaning service if your paving also needs washing first — we can quote both together.
When block paving is pressure washed, the high-pressure water clears out the loose jointing sand along with all the weeds, moss and dirt. That's the point — you want the joints clean. But leaving them empty afterwards is where things go wrong.
Open joints mean blocks can shift slightly under foot traffic or vehicle weight. They also leave an open gap for weed seeds to land and take root — and without any sand resistance, weeds establish faster than before you cleaned.
Kiln-dried sand is brushed across the surface and into every joint, then the surplus is swept off. It compacts down into the gaps, stabilises the paving, and gives the driveway or path a clean, finished look. It's the proper last step of a block paving clean.
We offer re-sanding as part of a combined clean-and-re-sand job, or as a return visit once the paving has had time to dry fully. Both options get the same result.
Re-sanding only works when the paving joints are fully dry. We check conditions before starting — if it's been raining or the surface is still damp, we'll arrange the right time to come back.
We use kiln-dried jointing sand — a fine, dry sand made for this purpose. It's spread across the paving and worked into every joint with a brush or plate compactor, not just scattered on top.
Once the joints are filled, any surplus sand on the surface is swept off cleanly. We leave the paving looking tidy with no piles of sand left behind.
Suitable for block paved driveways, front paths, side passages and any block paved surface. We work on both residential properties and commercial sites.
Filled joints significantly reduce the gap available for weed seeds to germinate. It won't stop them forever, but re-sanded paving stays weed-free for much longer than paving with empty joints.
Sand-filled joints reduce movement between individual blocks. This matters most on driveways — parked cars and turning movements create forces that unsettled blocks respond to over time.
Here's the typical process when combining cleaning and re-sanding in one visit or across two.

We pressure wash the surface and joints fully, removing weeds, moss, algae and dirt. The joints are now clean and ready.
On a good drying day, re-sanding can happen same day. In cooler or wetter conditions we return once the surface is fully dry.
Kiln-dried sand is worked into every joint and the surface is swept clean. Job done — your paving is finished properly.
"Absolutely brilliant service. The driveway came up looking brand new and the difference is unbelievable. Reliable, professional and very hard working from start to finish."
"Really pleased with the jet washing job on my driveway. Friendly, professional, and worked hard to get it looking like new again. Turned up on time and left everything clean and tidy."
"Great job, looks so much better. Will definitely use again."
Pressure washing removes loose jointing sand from between the blocks along with the weeds, moss and dirt. Without jointing sand the gaps between blocks are open — which allows weeds to re-establish quickly and can cause blocks to shift or rock over time. Re-sanding restores the joint fill, stabilises the paving and gives a much tidier finished appearance.
We use kiln-dried jointing sand — a fine, dry sand designed specifically for block paving joints. It flows into the gaps easily and compacts down well. It's not the same as building sand or sharp sand, which can clump or wash out more easily.
Only if the surface has had time to dry fully — which depends on weather conditions. On a warm, dry day in summer this is often possible. In autumn or after wet weather, a return visit is more reliable. Rushing it while the joints are damp means the sand won't brush in properly and can clump on the surface.
It significantly slows regrowth. Properly filled joints leave far less open space for weed seeds to land and roots to establish. It won't prevent weeds indefinitely — nothing will — but re-sanded paving stays cleaner for much longer than paving with open joints.
Re-sanding is most effective after a proper clean because the joints are fully cleared of debris. We'd generally recommend combining the two. That said, if your paving has been cleaned recently elsewhere and the joints are already clean and dry, we can discuss a re-sand only job — send us photos and we'll advise honestly.
